Prasiolite
Prasiolite is a fine transparent stone with a pale olive green color. It owes its name to two Greek words: “prason” which means leek for its green color and “lithos” which means stone.
It is a type of quartz with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
It is very rarely found green in the wild. It is most often produced by heating a certain type of amethyst in the laboratory. Other types of amethyst turn yellow or orange and are then called citrine. The varieties of amethysts that become prasiolites are mined in Brazil and Arizona.
It is an attractive stone for jewelry thanks to its beauty, brilliance and durability.
